Vandell Andrade's Double-Double Not Enough in, 75-57, Loss to UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Freshman forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and scored 11 points en route to her sixth double-double of the season, but UMass Dartmouth downed Rhode Island College,  75-57, in Little East Conference women's basketball action played at the Tripp Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

 

RIC drops to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the Little East, while UMD improves to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.

 

Junior forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) equaled Andrade's effort with 11 points, while senior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) and junior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) each contributed 10 points.

 

UMass Dartmouth sophomore forward Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, MA) led the way for the hosts with a game-high 27 points. Senior forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA) posted a double-double of her own with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

 

RIC shot 37 percent (21-for-57) from the field, 30 percent (3-for-10) from downtown and 67 percent (12-for-18) from the charity stripe. UMD shot 40 percent from the field (27-for-67), 17 percent (2-for-12) from downtown and 68 percent (19-for-28) from the free throw line.

 

RIC dominated the glass, 51-33, but committed 25 turnovers compared to a mere five for the hosts.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will continue Little East Conference play at Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 19 (1 p.m.).
