William Paterson Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Rutgers-Camden, 72-44

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (11-5, 5-3 NJAC) scored the first 20 points of the game and cruised from there, securing a 72-44 victory against visiting Rutgers-Camden (6-8, 2-6 NJAC) Jan. 12.

 

The Scarlet Raptors didn't get on the scoreboard until a 1-for-3 trip to the free-throw line at the 10:49 mark, and didn't convert a field goal until there was 9:09 to play in the first half (20-3) as the Pioneers forced Rutgers-Camden into 0-for-4 field-goal shooting and 16 turnovers during the first 11 minutes of the contest.  WP carried a 39-11 lead into the break after shooting 48.4 (15-31) percent from the floor.

 

The Pioneers' lead ballooned to as many as 42 (70-28, 5:29) as William Paterson's reserves saw the majority of the second-half minutes. 

 

Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) led all players with 21 points, seven assists and four steals.  She knocked down eight of her 13 (.615) attempts from the floor.  Junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and freshman guard Shakira Negron (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception) each posted eight tallies as all but two of the Pioneers got into the scoring column.

 

Senior Brittany Turner led the Scarlet Raptors with 16 points, and sophomore Lillian Chukwueze had 13.  Rutgers-Camden shot just 26.8 (15-56) percent overall, including a 3-for-17 (.176) finish from three-point range.

 

William Paterson will play at The College of New Jersey Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 6:00 p.m.
