St. Mary's Women's Basketball Rolls to Third Consecutive Victory

Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team cruised to a 70-50 road win over Wesley College Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.  Three Seahawks scored in double digits in leading St. Mary's (8-6, 2-2 CAC) to its third triumph in a row.

Senior Joanna Murray (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) posted a game-high 19 points and three steals while junior Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) added her third double-double of the season on 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds plus career-highs of four assists and three blocks.

Senior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) also tallied double-digit points for the Seahawks with a career-best 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

St. Mary's broke open the contest in the first half with an 11-0 run to boast a 19-8 advantage with 14:10 remaining.  Wesley (2-12, 0-5 CAC) pulled within 29-20 at 6:58 but the Wolverines could not get any closer.  The Seahawks outscored the home team, 11-6, in the final minutes of the half to own a 40-26 halftime advantage.

Murray and Pruden paced all players at intermission with 10 points each while senior guard Jazmine Miller (Dover, Del.) led the Wesley squad with six first-half points.  As a team, St. Mary's shot 48.3% from the field and went 10-of-11 from the free throw line.

The Seahawks grew their lead to 21 twice in the second half as Murray connected on a layup at 6:29 for a 65-44 lead while senior guard Pui Sham (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) drilled a three-pointer at 2:39 for a 68-47 margin.

For the game, St. Mary's finished with a 41.0-field goal percentage and 48-36 rebounding margin.  The Wolverines struggled at the line, making only seven of 16 free throw attempts.

Miller finished the afternoon with 18 points while senior center Heather Fuller (Greenwood, Del.) hauled in a game-best 16 rebounds.

St. Mary's will look to keep the win streak going on Wednesday, January 16 when the Seahawks travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the University of Mary Washington in another conference game at 6:00 p.m.
