CANTON, NY (January 11, 2013) – In an eagerly anticipated rematch of last year's Liberty League Championship game, the St. Lawrence women's basketball team used a strong second half 11-0 run in a three-minute span to defeat the Brewers, 81-60, on Friday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The game swung dramatically in St. Lawrence's favor at the 16:28 mark of the second half when the Saints held a 46-39 lead. In the rapid span of three minutes, St. Lawrence went on an 11-0 run to build a substantial 57-39 lead.  Four different St. Lawrence players figured into the scoring and from that point the Brewers were in catch-up mode and never sliced into the St. Lawrence lead. In that game-changing time frame, the Brewers went 0 for 5 from the field, missed two free throws and had three turnovers. St. Lawrence made the most of its opportunity.

St. Lawrence harassed the Brewers into 23 turnovers, which resulted in 22 points, 13 in the second half. The Saints held Vassar – the league's highest scoring team – to ten points below its 70-point per game average. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence tallied a season high 81 points, 14 higher than normal.

With the loss, Vassar drops to 8-2, 1-1 in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence improves to 8-3, 2-0. Vassar heads to Clarkson on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. game, while St. Lawrence hosts Bard at 2:00 p.m.

The game was tied twice in the first half, and the Brewers took their last lead at 15-14 following a jumper by junior guard Cydni Matsuoka at the 11:34 mark. St. Lawrence used its balanced scoring attack to methodically build a 30-20 lead following a layup from junior forward Kelly Legg with 5:30 until halftime.

Matsuoka led Vassar with 20 points. Sophomore Colleen O'Connell had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Legg led all scorers with 22 points. Sophomore guard Allison Cady, who had key baskets in each half, tallied 14 points. Sophomore guard Hannah Wilson chipped in with 11 points.
