NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sajidah Pressley's two clutch free-throws with 13 seconds remaining gave the City College of New York a one-point lead as the Beavers (2-10, 2-4 CUNYAC) survived a scare in Nat Holman Gymnasium to defeat the Cardinals of York College (0-12, 0-5 CUNYAC), 54-52, on Tuesday evening.

In their most efficient game offensively this season, the Beavers played unselfish basketball all evening, dishing out 18 assists on 20 made field-goals to end a six-game losing streak.

City College came out firing in the opening period, going 14-of-26 from the field and commanding a 22-point lead. Giovanna Blanco posted nine points and seven rebounds in the first half and finished with nine points on 5-of-8 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds, recording her second consecutive double-double. The freshman added two block shots while Taylor Pompilio picked up a career-high 10 rebounds and dished out a season-best four assists.

Sajidah Pressley finished with a season-high 13 points on four-of-seven shooting and picked up a team-high five assists.

The Beavers led by as much as 22 late in the first half but a sloppy second half allowed the Cardinals to rally from behind and take a three-point lead with just over a minute remaining in the City University of New York Athletic Conference contest. The Cardinals outscored CCNY 31-18 in the second half and finished with 25 points off turnovers.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday to host Old Westbury in a nonconference contest. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
