UMHB women fall to East Texas Baptist

Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fought back from a 14-0 deficit to start the game, but the Cru comeback fell short in a 59-46 loss to East Texas Baptist Thursday evening in Marshall. The UMHB women fall to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Tigers improve to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the ASC on the season with the victory. 

ETBU scored the game's first 14 points, holding the Cru scoreless until Tori Tucker hit a lay-up at the 12:50 mark of the first half. UMHB pulled back to within nine points at 25-16 at halftime. The Cru cut the lead to five points at 29-24 4:20 into the second half, but the Tigers answered with an 8-0 run to push the lead to 13 points. ETBU would lead by as many as 18 before UMHB made a run of its own. Tucker's steal and lay-in cut the gap to 56-46 with 2:32 remaining, but the Cru would not score again.

Tori Tucker, Taylor Tucker and Jovana Miles led UMHB with eight points apiece and Miles also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. The Cru shot just 31 percent from the field, went 0-11 from three-point range and committed 27 turnovers in the loss.

Mary Slaughter and April Leonard topped ETBU with 14 points apiece and Jaimi Kadlecek added 12 more. The Tigers hit just 1-14 from beyond the arc and hit 37 percent from the field. ETBU won the rebounding battle 47-46 but turned the ball over 26 times in the game.

UMHB will close out ASC crossover play with a 1:00 PM tip-off at U.T.-Tyler on Saturday. The Cru will then return home to open ASC West Division play with games against Concordia Texas and Hardin-Simmons University next week.
