UW-L Earns Eleventh Straight Win over UW-Platteville

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 46-45 victory over UW-Platteville Thursday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, who earned their 11th straight win over the Pioneers, improve to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC with their fourth straight win overall. UW-Platteville drops to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

UW-L led throughout the first half, racing out to a 11-2 lead. The Eagles led 18-6 with 6:56 left, but the Pioneers went on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to 20-18 with 2:15 remaining. The Eagles scored the next five points of the game to lead 25-18 and led 25-20 at halftime.

UW-Platteville took its first lead at 33-32 with 10:12 remaining in the second half on Elizabeth Lawinger's layup. The contest was tied four times over the next 6:35, including 42-42 with 3:37 left after UW-L's Briana Radowicz made a layup. 

Alyssa Krajco gave UW-Platteville a 44-42 advantage with 2:40 remaining, but UW-L's Erin Levenhagen tied the game with 1:23 left with a pair of free throws. After a missed Pioneers' jumper, Radowicz gave the Eagles a 46-44 lead on a jumper with :41 left. 

The Pioneers turned the ball over on their next possession, but the Eagles' Trisha Van Dusseldorp missed the front end of a one-and-one with :17 remaining. Krajco was fouled with :01 left and converted the first free throw to cut the lead to 46-45, but missed the second as time expired. 

Radowicz recorded her first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She was seven-of-18 from the field, including three-of-nine from three-point range, and two-of-two at the line. She also had three assists. 

Levenhagen finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Maggi Bishop had eight rebounds. 

UW-L shot 32.7% from the field, including 23.5% (four-of-17) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 57.1% (eight-of-14) at the free throw line. 

Lawinger led UW-Platteville with 14 points and seven rebounds while Krajco had 10 points and four rebounds. Kim Wellnitz finished with nine points.

UW-Platteville shot 31.5% from the field, including 36.4% (four-of-11) from three-point range. The Pioneers shot 58.3% (seven-of-12) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 5 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 5 p.m.
