ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Elisabeth Wentlent hit a clutch three-pointer with less than 90 seconds to play as visiting Ithaca College posted a 57-55 victory over the University of Rochester at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Wednesday night.
Wentlent's basket gave the Bombers (8-1) a 55-50 lead. Jenn Escobido increased it to 57-50 with 48 seconds left before the Yellowjackets (8-3) staged a final minute flurry.
Breanna Madrazo fed Amy Woods for a layup with 39 seconds left. After Rochester stole the inbounds pass, Madrazo sank a three-pointer from the left of the key, cutting the Ithaca lead to 57-55 with 28 seconds remaining.
Mary Kate Tierney missed the front end of a one-and-one for Ithaca with 18 seconds left. Rochester called for time to set up a final play. Madrazo dribbled through the lane, but her pass for Woods on the low left block was juggled and Ithaca grabbed the ball. The Yellowjackets fouled immediately. Devin Shea missed the front end of a one-and-one with less than four seconds left. Rochester rebounded the miss, but was too deep in its own backcourt to get off a shot.
Shea led the Bombers with 13 points. Kathryn Campbell scored 11 points. Mary Kate Tierney had nine points, all on three-pointers. Wentlent scored nine points (one trey) and handed out four assists. The Bombers outrebounded the Yellowjackets, 40-36, led by Escobido who grabbed nine.
Woods and Kristyn Wright scored 11 points apiece for Rochester. Wright hit three of Rochester's six three-point goals. Madrazo scored eight points and made three steals.
