PUERTO RICO -- The nationally-ranked Babson College women's basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by hammering Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico, 74-39, on Wednesday morning. With the win, the Beavers, ranked 20th in the country by D3hoops.com and 15th by USA Today, return home with a record of 9-1 on the season.
Senior captain Sarah Collins once again paced the Green and White, shooting 7-for-10 from the field for 15 points while also adding game-highs of 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Sophomore Erin Young added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range, while first-year Kristen Ferola notched her first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Fellow rookie Linnett Graber also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Beavers, and first-year Megan Otto added five points and six caroms.
Metropolitan received 13 points from Nayhomi Cruz and six points from Milli Correa. Carmen Torres led the team with five rebounds, and Mercedes Colon added two blocked shots and a game-high five steals.
Babson held Metropolitan to just 13 points on 16.1 percent shooting in the first half, as the Beavers built a commanding 33-13 lead at the break. Metropolitan would not threaten in the second stanza as Babson coasted to the 35-point victory.
