Worcester, Mass. - Freshman guard Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y.) came off the bench to post all of her 16 points after halftime, including the go-ahead bucket on her fourth three-pointer of the second stanza with 20 seconds left, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 68-64 victory over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats on the second day of the WPI Women's Basketball Holiday Classic this afternoon. Trinity improves to 6-4, having dropped its opener in the event yesterday, 50-45, against the host Worcester Tech Engineers, and ends a two-game losing streak. The Wildcats fall to 3-7.

With 8:18 to go in the game, Trinity first-year Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) made a free throw and sophomore forward Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) drained a short jumper after the Bantams had rebounded Griffin's miss on the second foul shot to put Trinity ahead for the first time in the second half, 48-45. The lead would change hands ten more times in the waning minutes of the game. In the final two minutes, the Wildcats took a 62-61 lead after making just one of four straight tries from the charity stripe, but Raiti hit a pair of free throws to give the advantage back to the Bantams. Wildcat senior guard Marina Millian (Monroe, N.Y.) converted a layup from the left side on the ensuing Johnson and Wales possession, but Brickley drove the lane and dished to Raiti in the left corner for the clinching field goal, and the Bantam did not yield a decent shot attempt on the the final Wildcat offensive trip. Raiti hit two more from the foul line with less than a second on the clock to account for the 68-64 final tally

In the first half, Trinity took a 13-12 lead after junior guard Abby Hancock (Casco, Maine) fed rookie forward Ellie MArtin (Westport, Conn.) for a layup as the shot clock expired, but four free throws from Wildcat junior guard Jenna Juron (Burnt Hill, N.Y.) and a three-pointer from guard Chrissy Toth (Queens, N.Y.) sparked a 10-1 run heading into the final minutes of the half. Trinity missed three free throws late, as the Wildcats finished out the half with a 28-22 advantage.

With 52 fouls committed in the game the teams combined to shoot 74 free throws. Despite the Wildcats holding the advantage, shooting 69.2% from line to Trinity's 57.1% and 26 Bantam turnovers, the Bantams prevailed thanks to a 43-30 rebounding advantage and clutch shooting from the field and the line down the stretch. Raiti finished 4-for-5 from three-point range and added three assists, and a blocked shot. Junior forward Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) added 12 points and six boards, while Brickley added 11 points and eight rebounds, and junior center Emily Dixon (Norwood, Mass.) scored 10 points. Juron put up 14 of her 16 in the first half and shot an impressive 10-for-11 from the free throw line. In the first half, it was Juron's perfect 10-of-10 free throws that paced her team to an impressive 81.3 shooting percentage from the line in the first stanza. Toth tallied 12 points and nabbed four steals. Marina Millian (Monroe, N.Y.) added 12 and hauled in eight boards.
