The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team turned up the defensive pressure in the second half against Nazareth Sunday to defeat the Golden Flyers 76-67.

The Panthers surrendered a season-worst 41 points in the opening half, allowing Nazareth to shoot 55 percent from the floor and connect on five three-pointers. The Golden Flyers led by as much as 11 before Pitt-Bradford rattled off eight straight points to close within three at 32-29.

The Panthers scored twice in the final minute, including a layup by Abby Brate with two seconds left, to trail 41-37 at the break.

Pitt-Bradford quickly evened the score at 43 in the second half on a pair of Melanie Yanetsko free throws and after the two teams traded baskets twice, the Panthers used a 15-5 spurt to pull away for good.

Allison Osborne scored the go ahead layup at the 11:27 mark and Yanetsko drilled three three-pointers, including two on back-to-back possessions, to fuel the run. The Panthers would lead by as much as 14 and the Golden Flyers would get no closer than seven the rest of the way.

Pitt-Bradford shot 44 percent from the floor and hit a season-high eight three-pointers. The Panthers scored 27 points off 17 Nazareth turnovers and were 22-27 from the free throw line. They limited the Golden Flyers to 41 percent shooting in the second half while allowing just 26 points.

Nazareth outscored Pitt-Bradford 26-16 in the paint and outrebounded the Panthers by four, but attempted just three free throws.

Geena Sneeringer poured in a game-high 19 points, including going 13-16 from the line, and added seven rebounds and five assists. Alicia Kimmel totaled 18 points, Yanetsko had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Osborne chipped in with 11 points.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 4-4 on the season and travels to Buffalo State Wednesday.
