Women's Basketball Loses Close one to Farmingdale State

Huntingdon, Pa— The John Jay women's basketball team lost a close one on Saturday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Farmingdale State College 58-56 in the consolation game of the Juniata College Annual Holiday Tournament.
 
The loss was the second time the Bloodhounds were defeated by Farmingdale State by two points this season. John Jay lost to the Rams 49-47 on Nov. 25.
 
John Jay was led by Jamecia Forsythe with 16 points and 16 rebounds.  Simone Victor added nine points and seven rebounds, while Victoria Story had eight points and seven rebounds.
 
Farmingdale State was led by Nicky Young with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
 
The contest was close throughout and saw 16 lead changes, including 11 in the second half. Farmingdale State opened the game on a 9-0 run which was the largest lead of the game for either team. After the Rams' nine unanswered points to start the game, John Jay answered with a 9-0 run of its own to knot the score with 13:06 to play.
 
Farmingdale State led most of the first half and had a lead as large as six. The Bloodhounds' led by two twice in the first half before holding a 27-26 lead at halftime.
 
The two schools traded leads the first few possessions of the second half. But the Bloodhounds distanced themselves slightly and led by as much as five after a Victor three pointer at 13:38 to put John Jay up 38-33.
 
But the Rams did not go away. Farmingdale State countered with a 6-0 run to take a 39-38 lead 11:55 to go. From their neither team led by more than four points the rest of the way.
 
The score was tied at 56-56 with under two minutes remaining before Farmingdale State's Nikita Green connected on a lay-up with 1:21 to go to give the Rams a two point lead, which proved to be the game winner.
 
John Jay missed several chances in the final minute as the Rams beat the Bloodhounds narrowly.
 
John Jay is back in action on Fri. Jan. 4 at York College at 6 p.m.
