LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Nicole Coffman poured in 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half Tuesday as Transylvania ran away from Marietta 66-42 in the final game of the Pat Deacon Classic at the Beck Center.
 
The Pioneers are 7-2 while Marietta is 5-6. Transy lost to Muskingum in its first game of the Classic while Marietta defeated Huntingdon. Earlier on Tuesday, Muskingum knocked off Huntingdon, 86-73.
 
Neither team shot well in the first half, which ended with Transy on top, 22-19, after the Pioneers scored the final five points of the period. The home team had 16 more shots than the visitors, but connected on just eight of 37 (21.6 percent) while Marietta netted seven of 21 (33.3 percent).
 
Transy forced 15 first-half turnovers and scored 13 points off of those miscues while committing just six turnovers. Coffman had seven points to lead Transy and Alex Botkin added six points and seven rebounds. Tori Dixon's nine points on three of five shooting paced Marietta.
 
After making just two of 14 shots in the first half, Coffman went off early in the second period. She was six of 13 in the second half overall and his two of her three triple attempts in the final 20 minutes. Her offensive explosion helped Transy rally to a 16-point lead, 45-29, at the 11:54 mark, an advantage that would grow to 23, 52-29, with 9:02 left.
 
Transy would eventually lead by as many 24 points in the final seconds.
 
Botkin and Alex McKenzie each posted double-doubles for Transy. Botkin finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds while McKenzie added 10 points and 12 boards. Freshman Katelyn Smith was also in double figures with 13 points. Dixon had 14 to lead Marietta and Heather Booth finished with 12.
 
Transy shot 55 percent from the field in the second half to finish at 37 percent for the game. Marietta was just 10 of 31 (32 percent) in the second half, which was also its percentage for the game. Transy had a 50-34 edge on the boards and finished with 14 turnovers to 20 for the visitors. Transy's advantage in points off turnovers wound up at 25-5.
 
Coffman has been in double figures in each of Transy's nine games this year.
 
After a Christmas break, the Pioneers return to action in the Huntingdon Classic, taking on Oglethorpe on Dec. 28 and Louisiana College on Dec. 29.
