WAYNE, N.J. – A 21-2 run to open the second half helped to propel the William Paterson women's basketball team (7-3) to a 64-54 victory against visiting Mount Saint Mary (5-4) Dec. 15.

The Pioneers were ahead by four five minutes into the contest, but the Knights put together an 11-2 burst to lead by as many as 10, 25-15, with 6:54 remaining in the first half.  Junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) ignited a 13-2 run with her jumper, followed by a Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) three-pointer and a Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) baseline jumper.  Jackiewicz finished a fast-break layup off a Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) steal, and after a MSMC bucket, Jeter knocked down a jumper and freshman guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) scored on a fast break after a Borova steal, handing WP a 28-27 advantage with 3:06 on the clock.

Neither team could find the mark again until Mount Saint Mary's Charneice McCullough made the front end of a one-and-one (28-28, 0:31), and Becky Metzger's trey handed the Knights a 31-28 edge four seconds before halftime.

Jackiewicz opened the second period with a three-pointer to knot the score at 31-31 27 seconds in, but Rachel Perrone immediately answered with a layup to nudge MSMC back ahead (33-31, 19:08).  Those would be the last points the Knights would score for more than five minutes, as WP reeled off 18 straight tallies, including eight off the hot hand of Borova, to surge ahead by a 49-33 count with 15:17 to play.

When Mount Saint Mary cut the margin to seven at 57-50 with 4:43 remaining, sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) knocked down a short jumper (59-50, 4:10), and when Amanda Smith converted a layup (59-52, 3:13), Borova drained her fourth three-pointer of the afternoon to again make it a 10-point spread at 62-52 with 2:36 to play.

Borova scored 15 of her 24 points during the second half, adding four assists and a game-best six steals.  Jeter contributed 17 points and seven rebounds on 8-for-13 (.615) shooting, and Marfo pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.  Jackiewicz posted eight tallies for the Pioneers.

Lauren Romao led MSMC with 13 points, Perrone had 12 tallies, and Smith and Rottisha Lewis finished with 10 points apiece.

After shooting 38.2 (27-65) percent during the first half, WP was 14-for-31 (.452) from the field during the second period.  Overall, the Pioneers sank eight of their 15 (.533) attempts from beyond the arc.

William Paterson will compete in the Catholic University Holiday Tournament, taking on Oswego Sunday, Dec. 30, at 8:00 p.m.
