DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit to stun Grinnell College 61-55 in overtime in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (6-1, 3-1 MWC) trailed 33-16 in the early stages of the second half and still trailed by 15 points at 41-26 with 11:21 remaining. St. Norbert went on a quick 9-0 run from that point, keyed by a Kyra VandenHeuvel 3-pointer.
Grinnell held a 47-41 edge with 5:16 left but St. Norbert went on a 7-0 run to take a 48-47 lead. Tasha Giese and Krista Hawkinson had layups, and Megan Doody canned a 3-poitner to put the Green Knights ahead 48-47 with 2:36 left. Anne Boldt put Grinnell up 50-48 with 1:46 left on a conventional three-point play, but Hawkinson's two free throws with 1:27 left knotted the score at 50-50, which is where regulation time ended.
St. Norbert closed out the final 2:14 of overtime on an 8-0 run, with Hawkinson getting a basket and a pair of free throws. Megan Doody and Tasha Giese also connected on a pair of free throws to ice the win.
The Green Knights had an abysmal first half shooting, making 6 of 23 field goals (26.1 percent) to trail 28-16 at halftime. St. Norbert finished shooting 37.7 percent (20-for-53) for the game, and outrebounded the Pioneers 37-34. Giese finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Hawkinson added 13 points and Doody 11.
Grinnell shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor but was ultimately done in by 22 turnovers. Alissa Hirsh led the Pioneers with 20 points, while Boldt added 13 and Tolu Alabi 12.
