Lady Choctaws Take Down Concordia Texas, 51-45

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team grabbed a 17-point first half and held on for a 51-45 victory against Concordia Texas on Saturday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Senior Whitney Enis hit a three-pointer with 6:53 remaining in the first period to give the Lady Choctaws (5-2, 2-1 ASC) their largest lead of the night at 25-8.  The Tornados (4-2, 2-1 ASC) closed out the half on a 14-4 run to cut the lead to seven points at halftime.

In the second half, CTX slowly chipped away at the lead and a layup by Katherine Frost with 5:09 to go tied the game at 42-42.  MC would score the next seven points to pull away and clinch the win.

The Lady Choctaw defense held the Tornados to just 30% (15-50) shooting from the floor and came away with 14 steals.  MC also held Concordia to 0-14 from behind the arc in the contest.

Senior Valeri Stewart led the Lady Choctaws with 14 points on 6-13 shooting and had a career-high seven thefts in the game.  Senior Jamie Lack and junior Jasmine James each had eight points and seven rebounds in the contest.

Both teams had their way on the offensive boards as the Tornados pulled down 21 on their end and the Lady Choctaws had 20.  Six of Lack's seven boards came on the offensive side.

The Tornados were led by Domonique Liddell with 13 points and 11 rebounds, six of which were offensive.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 p.m.  The Tornados will face Louisiana College on Saturday.
