ALPINE, Texas --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team pulled away for a 76-53 victory over Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
The Lady Choctaws (4-2, 1-1 ASC) were led by senior Caitlin Brown, who posted career-highs with 18 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. Senior Traci Rodgers scored a season-high 20 points and hit four three-pointers.
In the first half, MC took a 36-21 advantage into the break after leading by as many as 17 points in the period. The Lady Lobos (0-7, 0-2 ASC) opened the second half on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to eight, but the Lady Choctaws held off the charge and pulled away for the victory.
The Lady Choctaws outrebounded the Lady Lobos, 61-36, and had 23 offensive rebounds in the game. Senior Ebony Williams also pulled down 13 boards for MC. Senior Valeri Stewart had a season-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points.
Sul Ross was led by Asrelle Anderson and Nicole Murdock with 12 points apiece. Amanda Garza tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they host Concordia Texas at 5:30 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
