VIRGINIA BEACH -- Guilford College's Quakers scored the final four points of the game Saturday to pull out a 54-50 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the host Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins.

Sophomore Sarah Seipp (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) nailed a triple with 47 seconds remaining to create the game's ninth tie at 50-all in the rematch between last year's ODAC championship game teams.

But, as time ticked off the clock, senior Brittany Atwater (Durham, N.C./Ravenscroft) drove the lane from the left for a score that also drew a foul.  She converted and Guilford led 53-50.

Virginia Wesleyan (5-4, 2-1) missed a final three-point attempt and Guilford (7-2, 2-1) padded its lead with one of two free throws by Morgan King (Teachey, N.C./New Hanover) for the final margin of victory.

It was a tight game from the start, featuring six lead changes and nine ties.  Guilford opened up a four-point lead in the first half, but Virginia Wesleyan ignited an 11-0 run to take a 19-12 lead at 7:38.  Rookie Kelly Jones (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) hit two triples in the rn and senior Rachael Miller (Sterling Park/Park View) added another.  VWC went on to post a 26-20 lead at halftime.

But, the Marlins' shooting went cold in the opening minutes of the second half and Guilford rallied back to tie the game at 30-all on an Atwater jumper.  It was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way, with neither team leading by more than four points.

Jones led Virginia Wesleyan scoring with a season-best 13 points.  She hit 5-of-7 field goal attempts, nailing 3-of-5 triples.  Sophomore Brittany Glasco (Fredericksburg/Massaponax) added nine points and five assists.  Junior Katie Tassa (Bristow/Manassas Osbourn Park) led the Marlins with eight rebounds.  Nancy Kelly (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) pulled down six.

Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) led Guilford with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 15 rebounds.  King finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  The Quakers outrebounded VWC 48-37.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Monday, Dec. 17, in non-conference competition, hosting the Captains of Christopher Newport University at 6 p.m.
