NASHUA, N.H. 12/6/12 – Senior Siobhan Carnell (Quincy, Mass.) tallied 17 points and seven rebounds and Christan Wojtas (Amherst, N.H.) added a season high 16 points guiding Keene State past host Daniel Webster, 75-43 Thursday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Carly Kiernan (Topsfield, Mass.) added 13 points for the Owls (3-4) while Ryanne Williams notched nine points and nine rebounds. It was a confidence –building win for the Owls, who brought a four game losing streak into the game.
Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) paced the Eagles (0-8) knocking down a game-high 26 points including six three-pointers and pulled in six boards. Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) added seven points. Ashley Giampetruzzi (Manchester, N.H.) notched nine rebounds and had five points.
Megan Shaw (Franklin, Mass.) had nine points and Brianna McCain (Hampton, N.H.) eight points off the bench for the winners.
The game marked just the second ever meeting between the two programs and first since 1997.
Keene never trailed, bolting to an 11-0 lead over the first four minutes and led by nine (13-4) before the Eagle pulled back within two (17-15) with a 9-4 run keyed by a pair of Bosques treys.
DWC would tie it at 20 on an England layup with 6:24 to go in the half but Carnell followed inside and Williams added a layup sparking a 10-0 run and Keene closed the half on a 17-2 run for a 29-22 lead at the break.
Keene finished shooting 42-percent on the night while DWC was 29-percent. The Owls owned a convincing 52-34 advantage on the glass and were aided by 17 Eagle turnovers while committing just five.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday visiting Mitchell in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m. Keene State hosts UMass Boston in a Little East game Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
