More news about: Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team had four players finish in double figures in Wednesday night's home contest against Lycoming College, but still came up short. The Warriors closed the game on a 14-0 run in the final 3:28 to pull away from E-town to secure their first victory of the season, 70-62.

Taylor Kreider's layup and Taylor Alwine's and-one off a missed three-pointer got Elizabethtown off and running to a 5-0 lead 1:23 into the game. Kreider posted her fifth double-double in seven games after scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Alwine was also in double digits with 11 points, including 3-for-3 at the foul line.

With Lycoming (1-5, 1-2 CC) in a zone, E-town tried taking advantage from beyond the arc. However, only three of their 15 first-half attempts were good. All three makes came from Rachel Forjan, who posted 12 points on the night (4-of-7 from three-point range). The Blue Jays finished the game 4-for-24 on three-pointers.

After trailing 37-33 at halftime, Katy Fogel (13 points, three assists) was the hot-hand coming out of the locker room as she scored six of Elizabethtown's first eight points of the second half. Fogel put in a layup, assisted on Alyssa Aichele's jumper, made a jumper of her own and finished off her scoring run with two made foul shots to tie the game at 41-41 with 17:21 on the clock.

Lycoming's Shannon Wheeler poured in a game-high 19 points off the bench, including 11 in the second half, to pace the Warriors' offense. E-town led 62-56 in the final five minutes, but nine of Wheeler's points (three-pointer, four foul shots, layup) came during that key stretch that put the visitors ahead for good.

The Blue Jays will host Hood College on Saturday, December 8 at 2 p.m. in their final contest before winter break. Saturday's game will mark the first time the Blue Jays and Blazers have played each other on the court.
