FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University women's basketball team hung tough and challenged No. 24 ranked Juniata for much of their non-conference tilt, Tuesday evening. In the end, the Eagles needed a late 16-3 run to survive a feisty Bobcat squad looking for the upset.

FSU senior Stephanie Straka turned in a near flawless second half as FSU (2-2) kept pace with the Eagles (4-0) for much of the contest.

Junior Elaina Hummel drilled a deep three-pointer from several feet beyond the arc with just seven minutes gone in the first half as the hosts grabbed a one-point lead, 7-6. Juniata tried to pull away and built a five-point cushion on two occasions, the second at 6:37, but Frostburg collected a 10-4 spurt and sophomore Bobbi McDonald scored on a put back at 3:05 for a 27-26 lead.

The Eagles answered with a 9-2 run to close out first half action for a 35-29 lead at intermission.

Juniata carried the momentum into the second and pushed its lead to 15, 56-41, inside eight minutes of play.

Frostburg made one final run with a 19-4 scoring surge that covered just four minutes and tied the ballgame at 60-60 at 8:06. Senior guard Stephanie Straka accounted for 13 of the Bobcats' points during the run including a three-pointer that started the outburst and a fast break layup that knotted the contest at 60-60.

However, Juniata proved too much and closed out the game on a 16-3 run that sealed their fourth victory of the season.

Straka poured in a career-high 22 points, but powered the second half comeback behind a near perfect effort. In the second, she finished 5-for-5 from the field, 1-for-1 from deep and 4-for-4 at the foul line for 15 points. She also registered four steals, two rebounds and one assist and played all 20 minutes as she helped FSU threaten Juniata's perfect record.

Hummel finished second for the Bobcats with 15 points and three assists. Sophomore Ronje' James added eight points, three steals and two assists.

Kate McDonald turned in a game-changing effort for Juniata. She finished with 18 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists. She grabbed eight offensive rebounds that helped the visitors to a 25-12 advantage in second chance points.

Frostburg returns to the floor on Saturday afternoon when it opens Capital Athletic Conference action at 19th ranked Mary Washington at 1:00 pm.
