FREDRICKSBURG, Va. – Despite a 17 point performance by Elaina Hummel, the Frostburg State women's basketball team fell in the opener of Capital Athletic Conference play to Mary Washington 69-53.

Mary Washington, ranked 19th in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, controlled the momentum of the game with the 35-24 advantage at halftime.

The Eagles had four players in double figures, including three starters. UMW held the advantage by scoring 22 bench points and from 12 second chance opportunities. Junior guard Sam Partonen led the Eagles with 15 points.

The Bobcats looked to challenge the hosts immediately after halftime with a jumper by senior forward Brynn Arnone just 13 seconds into the second frame.

Less than a minute later senior guard Stephanie Straka stepped up to the line and hit two free throws to cut the UMW lead to 35-29.

The Bobcats brought the deficit to just four after two more foul shots by Hummel, but that's as close as FSU would get as the Eagles extended their lead to 16.

Hummel led all scorers with 17 points including 9-10 performance from the free throw line. Freshman Deara Parker came off the bench to grab eight rebounds in her 26 minutes of play.

FSU returns home to face non-conference opponent Shenandoah on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:00 pm.
