Women's Basketball Loses to Baruch

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Baruch College, 75-46 in a conference game at the Doghouse on Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss drops John Jay to 2-3 (1-1 CUNYAC) this season, while Baruch improves to 4-0 (2-0 CUNYAC).
 
John Jay was led by Victoria Story with 15 points. She was the lone Bloodhound to notch double figures in scoring. Simone Victor added eight points off the bench, while Jamecia Forsythe had seven points and eight rebounds. Sherrice Marshall had six points and eight boards for John Jay.
 
Baruch had eight players score at least seven points in the contest, and the Bearcats were led by Lynda Fields with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Sheridan Taylor grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds for the visitors.
 
John Jay took the initial lead when Forsythe won the opening tip and Tyana Hale connected on the lay-up just four seconds into the affair. But Baruch answered with an 8-0 run en route to leading the rest of the way.
 
The Bearcats led 20-8 midway thought the first half before the Bloodhounds used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to five as John Jay trailed 20-15 with 8:42 left.
 
But Baruch answered with a 9-0 spurt to take a 14 point lead with 6:09 to play. John Jay was within single digits with 2:26 to play after a three point field goal by Story made the score 32-23.
 
Baruch though ended the half on a 10-0 run to take its biggest lead before halftime as the Bearcats led 42-23.
 
The Bearcats maintained a comfortable lead the entire second half. John Jay managed to cut the deficit to as little as 17 early in the final stanza. But Baruch gradually increased its lead throughout the half en route to the victory.
 
Baruch held a 40-18 advantage on points in the paint and 20-7 on points off turnovers.
 
John Jay is back in action on Monday for a contest at NYU-Polytechnic at 7 p.m.
