Touhey's Career-High 23 Points Lead Cortland Women Past Potsdam, 65-50

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Megan Touhey scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as Cortland opened SUNYAC play with a 65-50 victory over visiting Potsdam.

The Red Dragons, now 3-2 overall, will host Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m., while Potsdam (1-5, 0-1 SUNYAC) will play Saturday at Oswego.

Sophomore Brooke DeMarco finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals off the bench. Junior Grace Williamson added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and she shared the team lead, along with sophomore Brittany Rando and sophomore Lindsey Minor, with three assists.

Katy Briedis led Potsdam with 12 points and Bailey Weigel scored 10 points, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Chenice Russell chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

Touhey, who also recorded two blocks, two assists and two steals, made 3-of-6 three-pointers. Cortland trailed 17-8 six minutes into the game, but outscored the Bears 37-11 over the next 13 minutes to take a 45-28 lead. Touhey scored 12 points during that stretch and tallied 18 of her 23 points in the first half.

Cortland led 45-31 at halftime, but Potsdam started the second half on a 9-1 run, capped by a Weigel jumper, and was within 46-40 with 15:37 remaining. The Red Dragons hit a free throw with 15:17 left to go up 47-40, and neither team scored for five minutes before Touhey made two foul shots at the 10:17 mark to put Cortland up nine.

In all, Cortland held the Bears scoreless for more than 11 straight minutes and led 61-40 before Margaret Wall made two foul shots with 4:32 left to end the Potsdam drought.
