Rochester Rolls into 11th Straight Wendy's Classic Title Game with 73-34 Win

Powered by an extended 31-4 run in the first half, the University of Rochester cruised into its 11th straight Wendy's College Classic championship game with a 73-34 win over the College at Brockport Thursday night at the Palestra.
 
The Yellowjackets (4-1) were led by Emily Trapani who had 10 points and 8 rebounds and 3 steals along with Ally Zywicki who had 12 points and three steals. 
 
After the score was tied at 4 four minutes into the game, the Yellowjackets went on their big run over the next 12 minutes.  Brockport (3-3) went over seven minutes during that stretch without a basket.
 
At the half, the Yellowjackets led by a 41-13 score and held the Golden Eagles to just 20% shooting from the floor (5-25).  UR also held a big halftime advantage on the boards, grabbing 25 rebounds to Brockport's 12.  In the first session, Trapani led the 'Jackets with eight points and six rebounds.  UR had 11 different players score in the half.
 
Rochester kept the momentum going in the second half, continuing to build on the lead.  The Yellowjackets went on another big run, this time outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-6 over the middle four minutes of the second session.
 
For the game, the Yellowjackets dominated on the glass, holding a 49-27 rebounding edge.  UR also had 14 steals and 16 assists and got some valuable playing time from its bench.  Kelsey Hurley and Katie Weiner each had seven points and two rebounds.
 
For the Golden Eagles, Ellen Story led the way with 12 points and three rebounds.  Brockport struggled from the floor, only shooting 29% (13-44) and also committed 29 turnovers.
 
Last season, UR defeated Brockport 75-33 in the quarterfinal round of the Wendy's Classic.

The win was Rochester's 23rd straight win in the tournament.
 
Saturday, the Yellowjackets will take on SUNY Geneseo in the championship game of the tournament and will be seeking their 8th straight Classic title.  That game will be Geneseo's first Wendy's finals appearance since 2002 and will take place at 5:30 pm.
 
Brockport will take on William Smith College in the 3rd place game at 1 pm on Saturday.
