Women's Basketball Impresses Homecoming Crowd with Strong Win

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team put on a dazzling performance in front of a large Doghouse crowd for Homecoming on Tuesday evening as the Bloodhounds convincingly defeated the City College of New York (CCNY) 66-51.
 
The win ends John Jay's small two game losing streak as the Bloodhounds improve to 2-2 (1-0 CUNYAC), while CCNY falls to 0-4 (0-1 CUNYAC).
 
John Jay was led by Victoria Story with 20 points and three steals, while Danielle Eagan had nine points and five rebounds.
 
With the overwhelming crowd behind the home team, John Jay raced out to a face start en route to leading from start to finish. The Bloodhounds opened play on an 11-2 run to take control of the contest early. The Bloodhounds upped the lead into double figures midway through the first half and led by as much as 16 in the opening stanza.
 
John Jay took a 30-14 lead, before the visiting Beavers closed out the first half on a 12-2 run to cut the John Jay lead to 32-26 at halftime.
 
The Bloodhounds never relinquished the lead and maintained a comfortable cushion during the final twenty minutes. John Jay led by as much as 20 in the latter moments of the second half as the Bloodhounds led 64-44 lead with just under three minutes to play before coasting to the end.
 
CCNY was led by Latoya Lee with 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Bria Fisher added 11 points and five rebounds for the Beavers.
 
John Jay is back in action on Saturday for another conference game against Baruch College at the Doghouse at 4 p.m.
