CORTLAND, N.Y. – Kathryn Campbell scored 15 points and Jenn Escobido added 11 points and six rebounds as Ithaca defeated Cortland, 53-33, in a non-league contest. The Bombers improve to 3-0 with the win and the Red Dragons are now 2-2.
Cortland was led by sophomore Tashia Morris' eight points on 3-of-3 shooting. Junior Grace Williamson scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds and sophomore Lindsey Minor recorded five points, five rebounds and four steals.
Cortland shot 36 percent from the field (13-of-36) compared to just 31 percent for Ithaca (19-of-62), but the Red Dragons committed 34 turnovers compared to Ithaca's 15 giveaways.
The Red Dragons never led, but were within two at 17-15 after a Williamson layup with 6:08 left in the first half. It was still a three-point game at 20-17 after Sarah Seger's layup with 4:26 left, but Ithaca finished the half on an 8-0 run and led 28-17 at halftime.
Minor hit a three-pointer with 15:32 remaining to pull Cortland within seven at 32-25. Over the next 10 minutes, however, Ithaca held the Red Dragons to just two points and the Bombers led 46-27 with 5:25 on the clock.
Cortland opens SUNYAC play Friday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. when it hosts Potsdam.
