Marymount Women’s Basketball Returns to Winning Ways

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team defeated former Capital Athletic Conference foe Goucher 57-33 on Sunday afternoon.  The Saints even their season record to 2-2 overall.

 

Tynisha Parks led the Saints and all scorers with 14 points while Katelyn Fischer added 13.  Parks hauled in seven rebounds while Fischer led all players with seven assists and four steals.

 

Miranda Krott scored nine points to go with a team-high 11 rebounds for the Saints off the bench.  She also added a pair of blocks and steals for the Blue and White.

 

A tight game through the first 31 minutes of action, the Saints finished the final nine minutes of play on a 23-2 run to blow the doors open against Goucher (1-3).  Marymount held the Gophers to just one field goal in the span, a jumper at the 2:37 mark, to close out the victory.

 

The Saints found their groove in the second frame, shooting a hot 57.7 percent from the floor compared to 26.5% in the first.  Likewise, MU clamped down defensively and forced the Gophers into 25% shooting from the field in the final stanza compared to 50% in the opener.

 

Marymount controlled the game down low, outscoring GC 40-22 in the paint and outrebounding the Gophers 42-29.  The Saints also took advantage of 29 Goucher turnovers and converted them into 22 points offensively.

 

Sharnell Huff led Goucher with 13 points while Latifah Butler had 12 rebounds.
