Trinity Women's Basketball Defeats Mitchell In Brandeis Invitational Third-Place Game

Waltham, Mass. – Junior Moriah Sweeney (Ramsey, N.J.) scored 14 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 85-39 win over Mitchell College, 85-39, in the third-place game of the Brandeis University Women's Basketball Invitational this afternoon.  Trinity, which lost, 54-50, in the opening round yesterday against Springfield yesterday, evens its season record at 1-1, while Mitchell drops to 0-3. 

Four different Bantam players scored in double figures, as rookie reserves Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y. and Heather Cain (Gloucester, Mass.) scored 13 points apiece and first-year Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) hit 10-of-11 from the foul line to finish with 12 points. Junior forward Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) had eight rebounds to lead Trinity, while Raiti's four assists were a game-high. The Bantams dominated the boards, 48-29, with 26 of Trinity's boards on the offensive end.  Mitchell's leading scorer was Kaylee Cerutto (Torrington, Conn./Torrington), who had 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from deep and 4-of-5 from the line. She also had three assists. Rookie Amanda Garcia (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. 

Brandeis defeated Springfield, 50-38, in the tournament finals.  Brandeis's Hannah Cain (MVP) and Samantha Anderson, Garcia, Raiti, and Andrea Moschetta and Tamara Tribble of Springfield were named to the all-tournament team.
