AMHERST, MASS. – Six Pioneers scored in double figures as No. 23/25 William Paterson (1-0) opened its women's basketball slate with a 76-43 victory against Farmingdale State (0-1) Nov. 17 in the first round of the Amherst Tip-Off Tournament.

 

Senior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) was 7-for-10 (.700) from the field for her game-high 17 points, while junior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) posted 11 tallies, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.  Junior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) had 10 points, seven boards and five assists, sophomore forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) tallied 10 points and a game-best eight rebounds, and freshmen Shakira Negron (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) finished with 10 tallies apiece.  

 

Ahead by a 45-32 count at halftime, the Pioneers blew the game open with an 11-0 run early in the second period (56-35, 15:32).  WP outscored the Rams 36-2 in the paint and limited Farmingdale State to 12-for-50 (.240) shooting overall.

 

Nicky Young and Nikita Green paced the Rams with 12 points apiece.

 

William Paterson will face host No. 12/15 Amherst in the tournament final Sunday, Nov. 18, at 4:00 p.m.
