Shenandoah athletic director Doug Zipp announced Monday that C.K. Calhoun has accepted the post of head women's basketball coach.

Calhoun, the third full-time head coach in program history, comes to SU after two years as the lead assistant at fellow ODAC school Randolph-Macon.

She takes the place of Michelle Guyant-Holloway, who resigned in June after six seasons at the helm of the Hornets.

Calhoun was selected from a field of approximately 100 candidates for the position.

"C.K. is the perfect fit for SU," Zipp said. "Everyone on the search committee and that met her during the interview process was impressed with her enthusiasm and passion for coaching.

"She has worked under excellent mentors in Bill Finney and Carroll LaHaye and is well-prepared to lead our program in its first season in the ODAC."

Macon had 37 wins, including 29 in ODAC play, during Calhoun's two seasons in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets won the ODAC championship in 2010-11.

Prior to R-MC, the Alexandria, Va., native spent two seasons at her alma mater, Marymount, under legendary coach Bill Finney.

Calhoun was one of Finney's assistants with the Saints and directed on-court instruction, strength and conditioning, fund-raising and academic monitoring as well as serving as recruiting coordinator.

"I am very honored to have this opportunity to lead this program," Calhoun said. "Since I got into coaching, Shenandoah is a place that I always hoped that I would have a chance to work.

"When I came on my visit two weeks ago, I was even more impressed.

"I look forward to leading this program into the ODAC."

As a player at MU, Calhoun helped the program to two conference championships and two NCAA Tournament berths.

Her first collegiate coaching experience came at Frostburg State, where she earned her MBA in 2010. 

Calhoun starts her full-time duties September 1.
