Spartan Women End Season with 57-43 Victory at Rival CMU

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Junior guard Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and senior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team wrapped up the 2011-12 campaign with a 57-43 victory versus University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) on Saturday at Skibo Gymnasium.

The Spartans finish the season at 15-10 overall and in a fourth-place tie in the UAA at 8-6. Case also posts its fourth winning season in five years under Head Coach Jennifer Reimer along with the highest single-season win total during that span.

Iacono, the reigning UAA Player of the Week, averaged 22 points over the final three games of the season. Hollinger wraps up her illustrious career as the second-ranked scorer in school history with 1,421 points.

In the first half, the Spartans trailed 13-8 as Emily Peel hit a layup at the 12:23 mark. Case answered with an 8-3 run and tied the score at 16 when Iacono scored a bucket at 9:25. After two more ties at 18-18 and 20-20, the Spartans finished the half on a 13-3 spurt with junior forward Marissa Miles (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) hitting the final bucket with seven seconds left on the clock.

In the second, Case opened on a 12-2 run and led by 20, at 45-25, when Iacono sunk a three-pointer with 15:12 remaining. From there, the Spartans never let their lead dip below 13.

For the game, the Spartans won the rebounding battle, 42-32, and held a decided 24-10 advantage in points in the paint.

Also playing her final collegiate game in front of her hometown crowd, senior forward Chelsea Peck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) totaled six points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Carnegie Mellon was led by Gabrielle West with 10 points.
