Fredericksburg, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team fell 64-62 to seventh-ranked archrival Mary Washington in the semifinals of the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday night.  The Saints close out the season 14-13 overall.

Katelyn Fischer led all scorers with 25 points while Julie Tomesheski added 11 and Tynisha Parks had 10 off the bench.  Tomesheski nearly recorded a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds while Fischer added seven boards, six assists and three steals.

Mary Washington (26-0) took the early advantage with a 5-0 run before the Saints responded with 13 unanswered points to lead by eight after five minutes of play.  Marymount would hold the Eagles at bay the rest of the opening frame, eventually taking a 26-22 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, UMW began to chip away at the Marymount lead until forcing a tie at 28-28 at the 15:50 mark.  Knotted up again at 30-30, the Eagles seemingly put the game out of reach courtesy of a 15-0 run over the next six minutes of action.

Not giving up, the Saints slowly erased Mary Washington's double-figure advantage and pulled within four at 58-54 with 18 ticks remaining on the clock behind a Fischer three-pointer.  With the Eagles converting their free throws each time down the court, Fischer banged home another trifecta with four seconds remaining top pull within three at 62-59 but UMW hit both free throws on the other end of the floor to seal the win.

Katie Wimmer led the Eagles with 19 points while Claire Brooks added 10.

Marymount wraps up the 2011-12 campaign 14-13 overall, securing its 14-straight winning season and 28th overall in 30 years on the hardwood.
