Hot Shooting Leads Titans over Golden Tornadoes 58-42

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team won its regular season finale tonight versus Geneva 58-42. The Lady Titans shot an impressive 48% from the floor for the game and pulled away in the second half. The Titans improved to 9-15 overall and 9-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-22 and 2-16 in the conference.

The first half only had four lead changes, and the Titans didn't lead until just under 13 minutes to go in the opening period. The Titans eventually led by four going into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Titans started to pull away as their biggest lead got up to 16 with just under four minutes to play.

The Westminster defense forced 20 Geneva turnovers which led to 27 points for the Titans. The Lady Titans bench outscored the Golden Tornadoes 37-5. Junior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) contributed to that number as she scored 12 points off the bench shooting 6-7 from the floor.

Sophomore Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, PA / Greater Latrobe) chipped in with 11 points while shooting 4-of- 6 from the floor. Junior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) hit two three-pointers and finished the game with eight points. 11 different players recorded points for the Titans.

Geneva was guided by Chelsea Kauffman and Beth DeLuca who had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Titans regular season play has ended and next week the PAC Tournament will begin. With the win tonight, the Titans locked up the fifth seed in the conference. They will travel to the fourth seed Bethany on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match-up at 6 p.m.
