Mount Union Defeats ‘Berg Women’s Hoops in Season Finale

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Junior guard Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) scored a career-high 18 points, but the Heidelberg University women's basketball team ended its season today with a 90-58 loss to the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the McPherson Academic & Athletic Center in Alliance, Ohio.

The game will be televised on a delay basis by WIVM Ch. 52 in Canton and SportsTime Ohio. The game will show on WIVM tonight at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. SportsTime Ohio will show the game at noon on Sunday.

Ickes shot seven-of-13 from the field and tallied two assists and four steals for Heidelberg (4-21, 1-17 OAC). Junior forward Molly Schriber (Sidney) and freshman guard Paige Ricketts (Mineral City/Tusky Valley) each came off the bench and added 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Schriber pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Mount Union (24-1, 17-1 OAC) was led by Rosa LaMattina's 18 points. Aly Daniel came off the bench to tally 15 markers, while Kori Weidt scored 14 and Amanda Rose had 13. Erin Schmidt grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Purple Raiders opened the game with a 15-4 lead less than five minutes into the game.

Heidelberg outscored Mount Union, 7-4, during a brief stretch in the first half as Schriber canned a three-pointer to close the gap to 19-11, but the eight-point deficit would be the closest the Berg would come.

Mount Union led by as many as 22 points in the first half.

The Purple Raiders would not lead by less than 20 points in the second half and pushed its lead to 30 points with just over nine minutes to play.

Heidelberg shot 28.8 (17-of-59) percent overall, but managed a 87.0 (20-of-23) clip from the free throw line.

Mount Union shot 47.1 (32-of-68) overall and 45.1 (nine-of-20) percent from long range. The Purple Raiders also held a 51-31 advantage in rebounds.
