OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team (12-13, 7-11 SUNYAC) shot nearly 43 percent from three-point range to help send out the Laker seniors with a 72-66 win over Fredonia (10-14, 6-12 SUNYAC). The victory sealed the sixth seed for Oswego State in the upcoming playoffs to send the Lakers to Oneonta for a quarterfinal contest on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Four three-pointers from Lauren Nunziato (So., West Sand Lake, N.Y.), Kassie Kleine (Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.), and Kari Kipper (Jr., Loudonville, N.Y.) fueled a 21-7 run to start the contest for Oswego State. The lead grew to 17 points following a Meagan Stover (Jr., Lake George, N.Y.) layup with a minute remaining in the first half, but a pair of Blue Devil three-point plays pulled Fredonia to within 11 points, 42-31, at the break.

The momentum carried over into the second half as the Blue Devils chipped into the lead until a layup by Becky Hebert made the score 46-40 with over 13 minutes left in the game. However, Nunziato hit her fourth trey of the game followed by four points from Kayla Ryan (Sr., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) to open the game back up to a double-digit lead.

Oswego State pushed the margin to 16 points when Meagan Stover drained a three-pointer with 6:29 on the clock. However, Fredonia scored ten unanswered points to pull to within four points at 68-64 with 37 seconds to play after the Lakers missed the front end of two free throws. It became a six-point contest on the next trip up the court when Kleine fed Nunziato for a layup, as the Blue Devils did not get any closer.  

Stover paced Oswego State with 22 points to go along with three steals followed by Nunziato's 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting from downtown. Ryan finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Jenna Rossi (Sr., Phoenix, N.Y.) finished with eight points, seven assists, and six boards.

Fredonia's Becky Hebert finished with a game-high 25 points and fell one rebound short of a double-double. Liz Wierbinski was the only other Blue Devil to reach double figures with ten points and seven rebounds, while Jaimie Warren turned in a well-rounded performance with nine points, nine boards, and four assists.

Prior to the game, Oswego State recognized its two seniors, Kayla Ryan and Jenna Rossi, for their contributions to the Laker women's basketball program.
