MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College ended the season in victorious fashion with a 90-69 nonconference victory over crosstown rival Mount Mary College this afternoon in Reiman Gymnasium.

The host Inferno (9-16) forced the Blue Angels (7-12) into 30 turnovers en route to 21 steals in the win. The Inferno scored 35 points on the visitors' miscues, which it needed to overcome a dismal day shooting the ball.

Alverno shot under 36 percent (33-of-92) from the field, just 8-of-31 from the 3-point arc and a measly 50 percent (16-of-32) from the free-throw line, but used a 32-11 advantage on the offensive glass for 28 points. The Inferno outrebounded the Blue Angels 57-49 overall.

After taking an early 8-7 lead, Alverno never gave it up and increased the spread to a game-high 23 points with 4 minutes left to play, but not before Mount Mary trimmed it to just two, 51-49, earlier in the second period.

Alverno used an 11-0 run over a span of 2 minutes to increase the lead back to double digits for the remainder of the game.

Senior forward Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) poured in a career-high 22 points and grabbed another career-best 16 rebounds for her second-straight double-double to led the Inferno in both categories.

Fellow senior Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) added 17 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists.

Three additional Inferno players scored in doubles as Hanna Galstad (Holmen, Wis.) scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting in her final game, while Kayla Kennedy (Trempealeau, Wis./Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) had 11 points and Kristen Speerschneider (New Franken, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) had 10.

Speerschneider also had a game-high six steals and senior guard Amber Meka (Caledonia, Wis./Thomas More) stole four.

The Blue Angels' Ashley Leverenz led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting.

The win marks just the second time in school history that the Inferno finished the season with a victory.
