Slow start hinders Chapman in 72-58 loss to Biola

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team trailed Biola University the entire game suffering a loss of 72-58 Thursday night at Hutton Sports Center. Chapman lost for the seventh time in its past nine games dropping its home record to 6-3 and the Panthers are 12-11 overall as they begin their last homestand of the season.

Chapman got out to a slow start early and never recovered. The Panthers were held without a field goal for the first 8:20 of the game until junior G Liz Hartnett scored a basket to make the score 13-4 in favor of Biola (17-9). The Eagles maintained their lead and established their largest margin of the half at 20-6 with 9:56 to go. The Panthers fought back but Biola led by at least seven points throughout the remainder of the half, leading 30-23 at the intermission.

The Eagles similarly controlled the second half and continued to stretch their lead to 20 points – their largest of the game – with 4:10 left and never looked back.

Eagles' sophomore C Adijat Adams led the Biola offense with a game-high 13 points and added six rebounds, followed by senior G Lauren Gustafson who had 11 points and three assists.

Senior C Brandi Hood led Chapman with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Chapman junior G Emily McCoy and freshman F Christy Cofano each scored nine points and had a three-pointer. Sophomore F Stephanie Servin scored eight points and landed a pair of three-pointers.
