Trinity Women's Basketball Wins At Crosstown Rival St. Joseph

West Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) scored 18 points and junior guard Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) had 13 points, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams defeated the St. Joseph College Bluejays, 69-64, this evening in women's basketball action at the O'Connell Center. Trinity improved to 10-12 , while St. Joseph is now 14-9. Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) had 18 points and six assists for St. Joseph, Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 14 and Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) had 11 points and nine rebounds.

The game was much different than the school's last meeting, won by Trinity, 86-18 on Jan. 6, 2010, as there were 14 lead changes and six ties. Trinity's biggest lead of the night was seven points at 46-39 with 16:16 to play; The Blue Jays biggest advantage was five at 53-48 with 6:31 left. Trinity whittled away its final deficit and took the lead for good at 61-60 on the second of two free throws from sophomore forward Taylor Murtaugh (New York, N.Y.) with 3:30 to play. Napier made a jumper with 3:00 left and a three-pointer 14 seconds later to give the Bantams breathing room. Trinity had 16 offensive rebounds and had 17 second-chance points to 10 for Saint Joseph. The Bantams scored 25 points off 24 Blue Jays turnovers, while Saint Joseph managed 12 points off 17 Trinity turnovers.
