Cyclones’ Women Fall on Senior Day

More news about: Centenary (N.J.)

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 11, 2012) – Needing to win their final two games to keep hopes alive to reach the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament, the Cyclones came up short, losing to Keystone College 72-67.

Centenary, who honored its seniors in a ceremony prior to the game, received double-digit outputs from three of the six seniors, including a 12 point, eight rebound, two block performance from Bridget McCann (Keyport, N.J./Keyport) and a 10 point, seven assist effort from Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton), however it was not enough as the Giants hung onto their lead down the stretch to seal the win.

The Cyclones, trailing by 11 points in the final minutes narrowed the gap behind three point baskets by seniors Colleen Collins (Colmar, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Jasmine Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont), cutting the lead to five, but Keystone shot 81 percent from the foul line in the second half, preventing Centenary from completing the comeback.

In addition to McCann and Vasta's production, Rosa finished her final home game with 10 points while Collins added eight points and six rebounds. Seniors Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Chelsea Shaw (Ledyard, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) had seven and three points respectively with Ally adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the effort.

Centenary drops to 14-10 overall and 7-8 in CSAC play. The Cyclones will travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on CSAC North leading Marywood University at 6 pm.
