Buffalo State Claims Eighth Straight Win, Defeats Brockport, 71-54

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (20-2/13-2) cruised past visiting Brockport (3-19/0-15), 71-54, for its eighth-consecutive victory in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.  The win secured the Bengals' 12th 20-win season and first since 2001-02.

Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) led three Bengals scoring in double-figures with 13 points and added six rebounds.  Hillary Kollar (Johnstown/Johnstown) netted 12 points off the bench, and Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 10.

Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton/Binghamton) paced Brockport with 13 points, while Cecelia Sigrist (Rochester/W. Irondequoit) had nine points and nine boards.

Brockport opened the scoring, but Buffalo State scored 13 of the next 14 points and never trailed again.  The Bengals led 39-25 at halftime and ran the lead to as many as 24 in the second half, before coasting to the win.

Buffalo State made 13 more field goals than its opposition and outscored Brockport in the paint, 44-26.  The Bengals committed 13 turnovers, compared to the Golden Eagles' 24. 

Buffalo State will travel to Fredonia on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
