DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Misericordia University used an 11-4 run over the final three minutes to break a 51-51 tie and notch a 62-55 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

The win improved the Cougars to 14-9 overall, 9-3 and alone in second place in the conference with two games remaining. The Aggies saw their record drop to 12-11 overall and 3-9 in the Freedom.

Delaware Valley held a 35-31 advantage at the half as it shot 42.9 percent from the field compared to 32.3 percent shooting by Misericordia. Both teams had their leading scorers on the bench for most of the half as Delaware Valley's Emily Soper had two points and three fouls in seven minutes while the Cougars' Christine Marks had two points and two foul in five minutes.

Soper picked up her fourth foul just 87 seconds into the second half and fellow forward Jackie Shunkwiler had two fouls in 17-second span to give her four and a spot on the bench with 16:56 remaining. The Aggies were up three at the time, but Misericordia followed with an 8-2 run for a 40-37 advantage with 12:40 remaining.

Delaware Valley fought back with a 10-5 spurt for a two-point advantage with six minutes to go. The teams traded baskets before a Jesse Robinson trey put the Cougars back on top at 50-49 with 3:41 remaining. Robinson added a free throw 32 seconds later but Soper answered with a jumper for a 51-51 ballgame.

However, Marks scored five straight with a trio of free throws and a layup to give Misericordia a two-possession lead with 1:36 on the clock. Soper answered with a layup, but Marks came right back and hit one at the other end for a 58-53 score with 58 seconds to go. The Aggies missed a 3-pointer on their possession and Tyann McDaniel hit a pair of free throws for Misericordia for a seven points lead. Delaware Valley's Sarah Delcasale and Robinson traded two free throws apiece for the 62-55 final.

Robinson paced the Cougars with 20 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Marks finished with 15 points and six boards while McDaniel hit double digits with 10 points.

Delaware Valley was led by Battinieri's 12 points. Freshman Shannon Barlow had 11 points and seven rebounds while fellow rookie Brenna Coll contributed eight points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals before fouling out. Soper and Shunkwiler had eight points apiece.
