Baruch Routs Hunter (74-43), Win CUNYAC North Division Title & Clinch #2 Seed

The Baruch College Bearcats scored the first 13 points to cruise to a 74-43 home victory over their rival Hunter College Hawks in a CUNYAC contest played on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

With the result, the Bearcats clinch the second place seed for the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament and win the CUNYAC North Division Title for the eighth straight season.

This is the final season that the standings will feature two divisions (north and south). Next year, all CUNYAC teams will play each other home and away with one division.

The Bearcats recorded a convincing performance this afternoon by dominating all of the major categories. They won the rebounding (61 to 47), shots attempts (91 to 57) and second chance points (31 to 13) battles, along with a 40-0 advantage in bench scoring.

The Bearcats used their defensive pressure to limit the visiting Hawks to only 11 percent shooting in the first half (3-26). They led at halftime, 40-12, and were up by as much as 35 points (64-29) with 7:32 left in the game.


Shamika Boycehad a monster afternoon for the Bearcats by grabbing a career-high 19 rebounds (eight offensive). Francess Henryrecorded another solid game in points with 18.

Jessica Duleba(12 points, six rebounds, three steals), Folashade Akinde(eight points, 10 rebounds) and Kiara Johnson(eight points) rounded out the top scorers for the Bearcats.

Kristen Markoe and Shatira Hamlet led the visiting Hawks with 11 points each.

Baruch will finish their regular season schedule on Wednesday, February 15, with a 7:00 pm non-conference home contest against Trinity College from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

The CUNY Athletic Conference will announce the entire Championship Tournament schedule on Monday. The women's team is assured of a quarterfinal playoff home game on Sunday, February 19, at 4:00 pm.
