Lady Choctaws Hold on for 55-52 Win at Texas-Dallas

RICHARDSON, TX - The Mississippi College women's basketball team shot 52% from the floor in the second half on their way to a 55-52 win at the University of Texas at Dallas on Thursday night in the UTD Activity Center.

For the Lady Choctaws (14-7, 12-5 ASC), it was their eighth win in nine tries, while the Comets (17-5, 13-4) have lost four of their last six contests.

UTD led the entire first half, taking their biggest advantage with 7:35 remaining when Brittany Houston hit a jumper to make the score 21-12.  MC would chip away at the lead and the halftime score was 24-20 in favor of the Comets.

In the second half, MC wasted no time taking the lead as they went ahead 26-24 on a layup by junior Elizabeth Brooks with 17:20 to go.  Brooks led MC with 15 points and five rebounds, including making two free throws with :32 seconds remaining.

The Lady Choctaws took their largest lead of the game with 2:23 left when junior Traci Rodgers scored her only points of the game on a three-pointer from the corner that game MC a 53-45 lead.

The Comets would not go down without a fight as a three by Lyndsey Smith cut the lead to 53-52 with just 1:03 to go.  Smith led UTD with 17 points and seven rebounds.

After Brooks hit two free throws in the final minute, Smith had a look at a three-pointer with just :01 second remaining, but it was off the mark and MC held on for the win.

The Lady Choctaws dominated the game in the paint, outscoring the Comets 40-24.  Juniors Caitlin Brown and Ebony Williams contributed with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

MC will remain on the road to face the University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Clarksville, AR.
