Lightning Women Take Down CCNY, Eye Rematch With Baruch on Friday

More news about: Lehman

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Over the last five contests for the Lehman women, another game played has meant one thing in particular - a double-double for Jaleesa Gordon.

The 6-foot senior did not disappoint on Wednesday night against conference foe City College of New York, going for 25 points and 12 rebounds on 12-of-15 shooting as the Lightning toppled the Beavers 61-43 to improve to 12-10 on the season.

Gordon did nearly all of her damage in the second half, scoring 23 of her game-high 25 points as Lehman turned a slim 23-22 halftime lead into a second half runaway.  Helping the Lightning maintain that one-point lead through the first 20 minutes of action was fellow senior Amanda De La Cruz, who scored 14 points on her way to 20 for the night.

Lehman charged out of the halftime intermission behind a fast-starting Gordon, who accounted for the Lightning's first three buckets of the second half, and led 39-28 through the first seven minutes.  A basket by Sadijah Pressley with 10:40 remaining pulled CCNY to within 41-34.

However, eight more points by Gordon as well as baskets by Alicia McDaniel and Paula Robinson allowed Lehman to open up its largest lead of the game, 54-37, with 5:26 to go.  Fittingly, Gordon capped the night's scoring for both teams with a layup that accounted for the final 61-43 score.

For the game Lehman shot 44 percent to just 29 percent for the Beavers.

Now sitting at 6-3 in the conference, Lehman will get another crack to topple Baruch, as the two will meet at John Jay College on Friday night as part of Lehman's home-away-from-home schedule.  The Bearcats defeated the Lightning 66-53 back on January 11.
