The University of Redlands women's basketball team finished off a regular-season sweep of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by taking down the Sagehens on Saturday in an efficient 50-29 decision. The Bulldogs have been on a tear as of late, winning nine out of their last 10 contests while gliding into a first-place tie in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

Against Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands dominated nearly every major statistical category. The Bulldogs posted a 28-12 margin for points in the paint and a 42-28 rebounding advantage. In addition, the Maroon and Gray bench stepped up with 20 points, compared to the Sagehens' two.

In the early goings, the Sagehens hung close with the score almost squared up at 10-11 less than 10 minutes into the game. However, the U of R quickly found its stride by rattling off a 7-0 run to pull away.

With the Bulldogs up by 28-21 at the break, the Bulldogs unleashed a 12-4 run that included points from senior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), senior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) and sophomore forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA). From here, the Maroon and Gray never looked back en route to the solid victory.

Sophomore forward Victoria Fakalata (East Palo Alto, CA) put together one of the best performances of her Redlands tenure, posting a career-high 16 points while snagging nine rebounds and dishing out an assist. Three of her buckets came in the final 3:30 of the game.

The senior captains put together a solid effort with Carroll tallying nine points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal, and Barbetti-Cort notching eight boards, five points and four assists.

The Sagehens (3-18, 1-9) were led by junior guard Alexis Sones (Los Angeles, CA), who notched a team-high 11 points, highlighted by a trio of three-pointers.

Redlands (15-6, 9-1 SCIAC) returns home to Currier Gym on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. for a big-time showdown for first place in the SCIAC against Occidental College. In addition, the teams will help raise awareness for theKay Yow Foundation and the fight against breast cancer by wearing pink t-shirts during warm-up.
