ROSEMONT, Pa. - Junior Ashley Montecchio (Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) needed 25 points in 29 minutes of today's game to hit the 1,000 career-point plateau. Montecchio blasted through the milestone, scoring 28 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field to power the Ravens to a victory over their neighbors from across Montgomery Avenue, the Bryn Mawr Owls, by a final score of 79-49 in a non-conference game.

The Ravens climbed to a record of 9-11 (4-9 CSAC) while the Owls are now 0-19 (0-14 Centennial) on the season.

A layup by Montecchio put her at the 1,000-point mark with 18:08 left in the game. She followed with a trey to end the game with 1,003 career points and she was removed from the game by Head Coach Andy McGovern with 11:08 remaining. Montecchio becomes the fourth player to score at least 1,000 at Rosemont. The last time the plateau was reached was by Rosemont's all-time highest scorer, Katie Linder, who scored 1,429 points from 2003-2007.

The visiting Owls staked the Ravens to an early 7-0 lead and Rosemont was able to extend their lead throughout, never really being threatened in the contest. Leading 13-10 with 11:35 left in the first half, the Ravens outscored Bryn Mawr 17-0 over the next 5:05 to put the game away, 30-10. The Ravens led 38-25 at the half and continued to extend their lead in the second half.

Rosemont opened the second stanza with a 22-1 run to take a 60-26 lead and from that point many bench players got some playing time.

Helping Montecchio for the Ravens was Vanessa Johnson (Jr./G.W. Carver/Philadelphia). Johnson was in control in the paint, scoring 15 points with 13 boards to earn her second double-double of the year. Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) added 12 for the Ravens. Substitutes Madison Leonard (Fr./Notre Dame/Breesport, NY) scored eight and Brinlee Pletz (Fr./Schuylkill Valley/Leesport, Pa.) had season highs, scoring eight and seven points respectively.

Rosemont shot 44% from the field for the game compared to Bryn Mawr's 29%. The Ravens' defense smothered the Owls who committed 20 turnovers against Rosemont's 12. Rosemont players were credited with 12 steals in the game.

The Owls placed two players in double-digits. Aislinn Toohey scored 17 to lead the team while Nicolette Parmese had a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.

The Ravens stay home for another non-conference tilt at Alumnae Hall on Monday, 2/6 against the Tigers of Trinity College (D.C.). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
