Lady Choctaws Run Away from Patriots, 62-49

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team held the University of Texas at Tyler to just 28% (18-65) shooting from the floor in a 62-49 win on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (13-7, 11-5 ASC) clinched their 10th consecutive trip to the American Southwest Conference Tournament with the victory.

MC led the entire game and took their biggest advantage of the game with :32 seconds remaining when they were ahead 62-47.

Junior Traci Rodgers came off the bench to scored 16 points, going 3-3 from behind the arc.  As a team, MC his 5-10 three-pointers.  Junior Elizabeth Brooks scored 12 points and had five of MC's 17 steals.

Junior Kristin Newsome led the team with 10 rebounds, but the Patriots outrebounded the Lady Choctaws, 52-34.

Shamiya Domino led UT Tyler with 14 points, while Melissa Thomas had eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to face Texas-Dallas at 5:30 p.m.
