GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team (12-8, 10-3 SUNYAC) limited SUNY Geneseo (12-7, 7-5 SUNYAC) to 15 percent (3-of-20) shooting from beyond the arc, as the Hawks cruised to a 60-45 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win Friday night to push their winning streak to three games.

With the victory, sixth-year head coach Jamie Seward earned his 99th career win, putting him one shy of the vaunted 100-win mark. No coach in program history has ever achieved the milestone.

Geneseo held the upper hand in the rebounding margin (43-35), but New Paltz shot the ball at a 39.3 percent (24-of-61) clip from the floor compared to the Blue Knights' 28.3 percent (15-of-53) showing. To boot, Geneseo turned the ball over 22 times compared to the Hawks' 13 giveaways.

Both teams kept it tight early, but junior guard Maliqua Fisher (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) ended up giving the Hawks a four-point lead (11-7) at 10:48 of the first half. Geneseo answered right back, though, going on an 8-0 run that was capped off by a Meghan Prue layup. That spurt motivated New Paltz to go on a 15-1 tear, with senior point guard Kaitlin Clifford (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) making it a 10-point game at 1:23 of the first half. The Blue Knights ended the stanza by scoring five unanswered points, and the Hawks entered the intermission with a 26-21 advantage.

Geneseo made it a one-possession game a number of times in the opening minutes of the second period, but the Blue Knights were not able to regain the lead. The Hawks blew the game open with a 15-1 run, and a made jumper by senior forward Shanay Bradley (Bronx, N.Y./New Explorers) gave New Paltz a 15-point edge at 51-36. Shannon McGinnis knocked down a pair of free throws to draw Geneseo within 13, but senior guard Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) converted on a layup and junior forward Alex McCullough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) hit back-to-back three-pointers to swell the advantage to 21 (59-38), New Paltz's largest lead of the night, with 3:12 left to play. The Blue Knights scored seven of the game's final eight points, but they ran out of time, as the Hawks emerged with the league win.

McCullough paced New Paltz offensively with 22 points off 8-of-11 shooting from the field (5-of-6 from three-point range) and 1-of-1 shooting from the free-throw line. Clifford also reached double figures with 10 points and added team-highs in rebounds (6) and steals (5). Irwin tied her career-high in assists with seven, and Fisher and Clifford handed out four and three, respectively.

For Geneseo, McGinnis led the way with nine points and nine boards, while Katelyn Charbonneau dropped in eight points. Melissa Graham collected a game-high three blocks, and Bri Dunton distributed three assists.

The Hawks return to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon, as they travel to Brockport for a 2 p.m. league clash against the Golden Eagles.
