The Carthage College women's basketball team (16-4, 7-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) bombed CCIW-opponent North Park University (8-12, 2-7 CCIW), 79-47, on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the North Park Gymnasium in Chicago.
Carthage jumped out to a 15-4 lead at 10:29 first half. Leading by 10 points, 19-9, at 7:21, the Lady Reds used a 13-3 run to up their margin to 20, 32-12, at 4:07. Carthage led by 19 points at halftime, 37-18. The Lady Reds increased their lead to 32 points, 52-20, at 14:03 second half and led by as much as 39 points, 77-38, at 2:57. Carthage went on to win by 32 points, 79-47.
Carthage, which entered the game leading NCAA Division III in field-goal percentage at .470, shot 53 percent (32-60), including six-of-17 from three-point range, while North Park shot just 27 percent (16-59), including one-of-11 three-pointers. Carthage held its opponent under 28-percent shooting for the third time in four games. The Lady Reds converted nine-of-18 from the free-throw line, while the Vikings connected on 14-of-19. Carthage had a whopping, 50-28 rebounding advantage. The Lady Reds' Diana Jacklin (Sr., Berwyn, Ill., Morton West) scored a game-high 22 points on nine-of-13 field goals, along with four-of-five free throws and a game-high 12 rebounds. Cailee Corcoran (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill., Chicago-Marist) was the only other Carthage player in double figures with 10 points on five-of-10 shooting, along with eight rebounds. Dani Ripkey (Sr., Deerfield, Ill.) collected seven points with nine assists. Antoinette Collman was the lone North Park player in double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Reds travel to Decatur, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 4 to take on conference-opponent Millikin University (13-7, 5-4 CCIW) in a 2 p.m. game at the Griswold Center.
